Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has given a stunning admission that his rival for the number one spot at Manchester United, David de Gea, appears to be the best goalkeeper in the world right now.
The Spaniard has not only overcome the shaky start he made to his United career, but he has also gone from strength to strength in the last couple of years. He is now in a position to become one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but Valdes reckons that he may already have become one. After joining United in January on a free transfer, Valdes is looking to become the club’s number one goalkeeper.
It is proving very difficult indeed given the less number of matches United have this season and the impeccable form shown byde Gea. The 24-year-old has made some outstanding saves while managing to keep alive the transfer rumours linking him with Real Madrid. The immense performances have produced a new transfer rumours stating thatde Gea could become the most expensive goalkeeper in the world – beating the previous record of Gianluigi Buffon – by making a £ 50 million transfer to Real Madrid.De Gea has now been playing at a consistently high level of performance which has led to many dismissing suggestions of luck and form.
"You are always waiting for your opportunity to play and train every day to show your performance to the manager. But now David is at a very, very high performance level. I think he is the most important goalkeeper in the world at the moment. So it is difficult [for me] to play and, of course, I must accept this. For me, the top [keeper] now is David. I see him every day in training. I watch him in every game, every week, and his performances right now are amazing,” said Valdes.
